← All policies"Three Waters" was the 2022-23 reform that moved responsibility for drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure away from individual councils and into a small number of large regional water services entities, under the Water Services Entities Act 2022 and related bills. The entity count was later expanded from four to ten.
After the 2023 election, the incoming government repealed the entities model (Water Services Acts Repeal Act 2024) and replaced it with "Local Water Done Well", which keeps water services under council control instead, via new local water organisations.
