📋 Free trade agreement with India
← All policiesImplements the New Zealand-India Free Trade Agreement, signed 27 April 2026. Eliminates or reduces tariffs on about 95% of New Zealand's exports to India (kiwifruit, apples, meat, wool, coal, forestry - most dairy products stay tariffed), and gives India duty-free access to New Zealand.
Labour supported the bill; the Green Party and New Zealand First opposed it, for different reasons. In the Second Reading debate, Green MP Steve Abel raised concerns about undermining small-scale subsistence dairy farmers in India and the agreement's investment-promotion obligations.
How each party has stood on this policy over time. On a 🔄 Aye = against vote, whoever voted Aye is shown as opposing the policy, not supporting it. 🙋 Conscience vote rows show which way most of that party's MPs voted, plus what % voted Aye in the House.
