📋 Easing firearms licensing and dealership rules

← All policies

Part of the Arms Bill, which repeals and replaces the Arms Act 1983 - described as the biggest overhaul of gun regulations in decades. This side of it separates the Firearms Safety Authority from the Police and eases licensing/dealership rules generally. See "Banning gang members from firearms licences" for the other, differently-directed change in the same bill.

National, ACT and NZ First voted for the bill; Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori against - confirmed directly against our own party vote tallies, since one widely-syndicated news summary wrongly claimed Labour and the Greens supported it.

56% support in the most recent vote

How each party has stood on this policy over time. On a 🔄 Aye = against vote, whoever voted Aye is shown as opposing the policy, not supporting it. 🙋 Conscience vote rows show which way most of that party's MPs voted, plus what % voted Aye in the House.
