Amended Answers to Oral Questions — Question No. 9 to Minister

I seek leave to make a personal explanation under Standing Order 343 relating to an answer I gave to a supplementary question this afternoon.

John Carter: I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. Is this a correction?

Hon STEVE MAHAREY: Yes, that is all. Is the member happy? In answering Brent Catchpole’s supplementary question: “Is Housing New Zealand Corporation building new housing stock or is it simply buying housing stock from the private sector,” I said: “Since 1999 the Government has built 4,000 new houses, and it is currently in the process of building another 4,000 new houses.” I need to break down that second figure of 4,000. Up to the end of April 2004, the Housing New Zealand Corporation had added a net 4,083 houses to the State house portfolio, of which 940 were new builds, 1,666 were acquired from the Auckland City Council, and the rest were a mixture of purchases and leases. The 4,000 to be added will also be a mixture of new builds, purchases, and leases.
