Business Statement

I understand the Leader of the House wishes to make a Business Statement.

Yes, indeed—thank you, Mr Speaker. Today, the House will adjourn until Tuesday, 23 July. In that week, the House will consider the second reading of the Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Māori Wards and Māori Constituencies) Amendment Bill; the first readings of the Regulatory Systems (Economic Development) Amendment Bill, the Regulatory Systems (Immigration and Workforce) Amendment Bill, and the Customer and Product Data Bill. The House will also complete the remainder of the Budget debate. On Wednesday, following the general debate, the House will debate the final report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions.

Is the Government intending to take urgency on any of those bills, including the Customer and Product Data Bill, given recent statements by Ministers on the need to work on scams and fraud, and the ability of that bill to enhance protections for consumers from those scams and frauds?

Well, ultimately, the question of urgency is a matter for the House. The Government doesn’t have any intention at this time.
