Points of Order — House Bells—Failure to Ring

Point of order. Thank you Mr Speaker. I think members will be aware that the bells which usually ring to allow members to make their way to the House did not occur this afternoon. In light of that, I wonder whether there were other provisions that had been put in place to ensure that members—even though most members should know that the House sits at 2 p.m.—whether there are any other mitigation aspects that have been put in place to address that concern.

The Office of the Clerk only found out at the time that they didn’t ring, and myself also, so we will have to come back to the House and find out what has gone wrong. Apparently, this has not happened in anyone’s memory so there’s very little we can do right now, but I see the number of members in the House right now is similar to a usual Thursday.
