Members, I regret to inform the House of the death on 8 May 2021 of Rana Waitai, who represented the Te Puku o Te Whenua electorate from 1996 to 1999. While in Parliament, Mr Waitai acted as chairperson of the Justice and Law Reform Committee and a member of the Māori Affairs Committee. I desire on behalf of this House to express our sense of loss we have sustained and our sympathy with the relatives of the late former member. I now ask members to stand with me and observe a period of silence as a mark of respect for his memory.
