Urgent Debates Declined — Hon Dr David Clark—Ministerial Resignation

I have received a letter from the Hon Michael Woodhouse seeking to debate, under Standing Order 389, the resignation of the Hon David Clark as a Minister. This is a particular case of recent occurrence that involves ministerial responsibility. Not all ministerial resignations will lead to an urgent debate—Speaker’s ruling 199/7, Hunt. I have permitted debates where ministerial probity has been a central issue, and where Ministers have been removed from their roles. I do not think Dr Clark’s resignation reaches this threshold, and I’m not convinced of the need to set aside the business of the House to debate—which member was that?
