Education Amendment Bill (No 2)
I move, That it be an instruction to the committee of the whole House on the Education Amendment Bill (NoΒ 2) that it have the power to consider and, if it thinks fit, adopt the amendment set out on Supplementary Order Paper 224 in my name.
Supplementary Order Paper (SOP) 224 proposes the insertion into the Education Amendment Bill (No 2) of a clause amending section 162 of the Education Act 1989 to set out a procedure by which universities may change their name. It is necessary that the House instruct the committee of the whole House to consider this amendment as it is beyond the scope of the bill. However, the House may issue such an instruction as the amendment is not foreign to the billβin other words, it would have been within the Standing Orders to have it included in the bill, had it been in the bill as it was introduced. The change that is proposed by the SOP has been the subject of consultation and has been supported across the House.
