Motions — Samoa—Influenza Epidemic Anniversary

I seek leave to move a motion without notice and without debate to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the influenza epidemic in Samoa.

💬 SPEAKER: Is there any objection to that course of action? There is none.

I move, That this House acknowledge that today marks the 100th anniversary of the New Zealand ship Talune arriving in Apia from Auckland, carrying foreign passengers with influenza that subsequently infected approximately 8,500 people, more than 22 percent of Samoa’s population, which is one of the most disastrous epidemics recorded anywhere in the world in proportion of deaths to population.
