Next week, the legislation to be considered by the House will include the Overseas Investment Amendment Bill, the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill, the Tariff (PACER Plus) Amendment Bill, the first readings of three cognate regulatory systems amendment bills, and the remaining stages of the Statutes Amendment Bill (No 2).

On the morning of Thursday, 9 August, there will be an extended sitting. Wednesday, 8 August will be a members’ day.

Is the extended sitting on 9 August an extension of 8 August, and if so, why does it suddenly no longer become a members’ day?

Because that’s the way the rules of the House work. It worked several times under the previous Government, where Treaty settlement bills were considered the day after a members’ day. It has happened that way ever since the extended sittings were introduced.
