Urgency

I move, That urgency be accorded the introduction and passing through all stages of the Land Transport (Speed Limits Validation and Other Matters) Bill. The Land Transport (Speed Limits Validation and Other Matters) Bill removes uncertainty concerning the validity of speed limits and consequential enforcement actions dating back to 2004. It retrospectively confirms that local councils and road-controlling authorities had the unambiguous legal power to set speed limits and will continue to do so into the future.

The ability to set speed limits and enforce them is essential for road safety. This is why the Government is moving swiftly to eliminate any ambiguity, uncertainty, or confusion around the legislation. This legislation, as it was first intended, is designed to protect the best interests of the motoring public.
