🗣️ Speech Hon Clare Curran (New Zealand Labour Party — Member for Dunedin South)
Time unknown

I seek leave to move a motion without notice or debate on the continued imprisonment of two Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt.

💬 Mr SPEAKER: Is there any objection to that course of action being followed? There is none.

I move, That this House condemn the continued imprisonment of two Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt—Canadian-Egyptian Mohamad Fahmy, and Egyptian Baher Mohammad—and further condemn Egypt’s suppression of the free press, which is the cornerstone of a just and stable society, and call on the Egyptian Government to release these journalists following the release of their colleague, Australian Peter Greste.

Motion agreed to.
