Motions — Egypt—Imprisonment of Al Jazeera Journalists
Time unknown
I seek leave to move a motion without notice and without debate in relation to the imprisonment of journalists in Egypt.
💬 Mr SPEAKER: Is there any objection to that action being followed? There is none.
I move, That this House condemn the sentencing and imprisonment of three Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt—Australian Peter Greste, Canadian-Egyptian Mohamed Fahmy, and Egyptian Baher Mohamed—further condemn Egypt’s suppression of the free press, which is the cornerstone of a just and stable society, and call on the Egyptian Government to review the sentencing and release these journalists.
Motion agreed to.
