Honourable members, I regret to inform the House of the death on 29 May 2013 of the Hon Dame Margaret Kerslake Shields DNZM, QSO, who represented the Kapiti electorate from 1981 to 1990. From 1984 to 1990 she held a number of portfolios, including Minister of Customs, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Minister of Statistics, and Minister of Women’s Affairs. I desire on behalf of this House to express our sense of the loss we have sustained and our sympathy with the relatives of the late former member. I now ask members to stand with me and observe a period of silence as a mark of respect for her memory.
