Urgent Debates Declined — KiwiRail—Partial Sale of Hillside Workshops

Honourable members, I have received a letter from Clare Curran seeking to debate under Standing Order 386 the KiwiRail decision to sell part of Dunedin’s Hillside railway workshops. This is a particular case of recent occurrence involving administrative responsibility of the Government. However, the business of the House should not be set aside just because an announcement has been made. There must be an element of urgency for the matter to take precedence over other business. There will be other occasions on which this matter can be debated. Members may raise such matters of concern to them during the general debate or in the upcoming financial reviews in select committees. The application is therefore declined.
