Amended Answers to Oral Questions — Question No. 10 to Minister

During an answer provided to the House today in response to a supplementary question, the Minister for Building and Construction, on my behalf, informed the House that vacant stock is about 2 percent of all Housing New Zealand Corporation stock. I want to clarify that the roughly 2 percent refers to vacant Housing New Zealand Corporation stock that is available to let. Other categories are, of course, “vacant pending development due to fire damage”, “vacant under sale”, “vacant under repair”, and “vacant under offer”. There are many in the Christchurch red zone, and outside the red zone they are clearly being rebuilt. So there are lots of reasons for vacancy, but around 2 percent at that time, which, I believe, the Minister said was about 1 July of this year, were vacant to let.
