🗣️ Speech Hon Gerry Brownlee (New Zealand National Party — Member for Ilam)
Time unknown

I seek leave under Standing Order 354 to make a personal explanation about an impression that might have been garnered from an answer I gave to a question 5 months ago.

The ASSISTANT SPEAKER (Lindsay Tisch): Leave is sought for that purpose. Is there any objection? There is no objection.

On 22 March, in answer to oral question No. 5 from the Hon Lianne Dalziel, I gave an answer that relied heavily on statements previously made by the member concerning her personal circumstances. Although you have found no matter of privilege in the answer, I none the less apologise for any unintended reputational damage to the member. The last 23 months have been difficult for all members of Parliament from Canterbury, including me, and I acknowledge that throughout that time all have sought first to represent the best interests of their constituents.

The House adjourned at 5.57 p.m.
