When the House resumes on Tuesday, 12 April the Government intends to introduce and make progress on legislation to respond to the Canterbury earthquake. If time permits, the Government will also look to make further progress on bills on the Order Paper.

Can I ask the Acting Leader of the House whether it is the Government’s intention to pick up the Opposition’s suggestion of sending the Canterbury legislation to a select committee—if only for a few hours—in order to give people like the regional and city people, and the Law Society, an opportunity to comment?

I can advise the shadow Leader of the House that that matter is currently under consideration by the Minister in charge of the bill.
