Personal Explanations — Legal Services Bill—Chairperson’s Report to Speaker

I seek leave to make a personal explanation.

Last evening while the Speaker was in the Chair, having been recalled to rule on a matter arising in the Committee of the whole House on the Legal Services Bill, as the Chairperson of the Committee I reported to the Speaker on a matter that had arisen—my acceptance of a closure motion. I have now reviewed the exchanges that occurred at the time. Although I denied saying, and certainly never intended to say, that I sought a closure motion, I accept that I did inadvertently use those words. I apologise for this. I can assure the House that as Chairperson I have never sought a closure motion and would never do so.
