Urgency
Time unknown
I move, That extraordinary urgency be accorded the introduction and passing of the Excise and Excise-equivalent Duties Table (Tobacco Products) Amendment Bill. The billβs title is somewhat self-explanatory. This move has been taken in the interests of public health, and the speeches that I am sure will come from members across the House will indicate the feeling that this move should help to stem the large numbers of people who are taking up smoking, and to encourage many of those who smoke to stop; in saying that, I know that I am straying into the debate. Procedurally, it is desirable that this bill is passed as quickly as possible in order that it can be given assent and that new tax provisions can be applied.
Motion agreed to.
