Points of Order — Bills—Availability
I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. I seek your assistance and support, really. It has been indicated to us that a number of important bills are coming up for debate very shortly, and I am becoming a bit concerned that members are getting into the habit of having to debate and vote on legislation before we have had a chance to properly digest it. I am seeking your support, and am asking you to put some pressure on the Leader of the House to provide bills to us earlier than half an hour before we have to debate and vote on them.
I accept the concern expressed by the honourable member. There may be a chance to discuss that issue at the Business Committee today. I am aware that the Government recognises the concern of the member, and I think steps will be taken to try to make sure that bills are available a little sooner.
