Points of Order — Member’s Bill—Leave to Introduce

I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. I seek leave to introduce a member’s bill in my name that incorporates Dr Cullen’s recent Order in Council into the Overseas Investment Act, and lists Auckland International Airport Ltd as a strategic New Zealand asset that cannot be sold into foreign control. I ask for this bill to be set down for a first reading on the next available day.

I raise a point of order, Madam Speaker. My understanding is that you had already accepted the leave, and that therefore the bill should be introduced. It was only after the leave had been accepted that Rodney Hide raised an objection.

💬 Madam SPEAKER: Frequently, unfortunately, because of the level of noise in the House, it is difficult to hear. Because I did hear something, I put the question again, and it was clarified. A member objected, and those are the rules, so the bill will not proceed.
