Business Statement

Next week the House will go into a 2-week adjournment. When the House resumes on Tuesday, 12 June, priority will be given to the remaining stages of the State-Owned Enterprises (AgriQuality Limited and Asure New Zealand Limited) Bill, the Social Security Amendment Bill, the Arbitration Amendment Bill, and the Criminal Justice Reform Bill. Wednesday will be a members’ day.

Can the Leader of the House tell us whether there is likely to be another Statutes Amendment Bill this year, or will the Government continue its practice of taking statute amendments and turning them into whole bills in order to fill up the Order Paper and make it look a little more substantial?

I imagine there will be another Statutes Amendment Bill at some point in the foreseeable future. I can assure the member that there will be plenty of work in the next sitting to consume his enormous energy.
