I have received two applications for debates on matters of urgent public importance. The first is from the Hon Murray McCully and relates to evidence given by the chief executive of Television New Zealand to the Finance and Expenditure Committee in the course of an inquiry into TVNZ. Even accepting that the evidence given by the chief executive is a matter involving ministerial responsibility, there is no case for an urgent debate. The matter is still before the committee, and the committee will be able to report on it as it sees fit.
