Tabling of Documents — Question No. 12

I seek leave to table three documents.

💬 Mr SPEAKER: The member should have done that before I called the next item. I will have to take the leave of the House that we return to it. Is there any objection? There is objection.

I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. It might help my education on how the House works. It is my understanding that a member can raise a point of order and seek leave to table documents at any time. The leave of the House is not constrained at any time. If Mr Franks wants to come to the House during the next session and seek leave to table papers, surely he is able to do so. But for you to ask the House to grant leave for the member even to be able to ask for leave, because question time has finished, is an absolute nonsense.

💬 Mr SPEAKER: I must agree with the member; I made a mistake. I would just like to urge members to remember that question time is the time to table documents relating to questions. Of course the member can seek leave to table the documents. He can seek leave now.
