Business Statement
Next week the House will begin a 3-week recess. When the House resumes on Tuesday, 4 May, priority will be given to the Corrections Bill, the Border Security Bill, the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Bill, the Forests Amendment Bill, and, specifically on Thursday, 6 May, the first reading of the Foreshore and Seabed Bill. Wednesday is a members’ day in the first week.
As I foreshadowed yesterday, I seek leave for the Government’s foreshore and seabed legislation to become Government order of the day No. 1, so that we can hold the debate and the vote today. I think it is desirable for the country to know whether the Government does command a majority.
