Points of Order — Broadcasting—Sound System

I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. I realise that significant resources have gone into improving the sound system in Parliament, but I am not sure whether you are aware that there are still significant problems with the system.

Yes, I am. In fact, I have asked for this to be monitored every day. This is the first 4-week session, and we will do some more testing in this area in the adjournment. If members have any thoughts or particular comments, they could pop me a note about them. I would appreciate it, and I do appreciate the member raising that point.

I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. The problem occurred only during the last two speeches. It was OK earlier on, but when Dr Smith and Russell Fairbrother spoke it was really bad.

💬 Mr SPEAKER: One of the reasons is that people speak too close to the microphone. People with strong voices should not go too close to the microphone. We are going to do some testing and I will write a little memorandum for all members. I thank them for raising those points and particularly also to Mr Tisch.
