I have received a letter from Keith Locke seeking to debate under Standing Order 376 reported comments of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security. The comments constitute a particular case of recent occurrence. While the Prime Minister has certain responsibilities under the relevant legislation, she has no responsibility for the comments the inspector-general has made, and it is those comments that form the basis of this application. The application is consequently not accepted.

Marine Farm Resource Applications

I have also received a letter from the Hon Ken Shirley seeking to debate an announcement that the moratorium on processing new marine farm resource applications is to be extended. This is a particular case of recent occurrence involving ministerial responsibility. However, as the existing moratorium was not in any case due to expire until 25 March 2004, the matter does not require the immediate attention of the House. The application is declined.
