Points of Order β Urgent Question
Time unknown
I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. I lodged with the Clerkβs Office an urgent question at 7 minutes past noon today that related to a speech to be delivered by the American Ambassador; perhaps the most significant speech an American Ambassador has given in this country. I was advised that you declined the acceptance of that question. Could I perhaps have a reason for that?

I declined it under the Standing Orders.

I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. In view of my raising the issue in the House, could you perhaps refer me to the Standing Orders under which you declined it.

I looked at the question and worked out whether it was an ordinary or urgent question. It did not appear to be one that could not be asked quite properly tomorrow.
