Urgent Debate Declined β Government's Welfare Policies
I have received a letter from the Rt Hon Winston Peters seeking to debate under Standing Order 376 a speech made by the Hon John Tamihere on the Governmentβs welfare policies. This is a particular case of recent occurrence involving ministerial responsibility. However, no announcement of a change in Government policy in this area has been made, and I am not persuaded that it requires the House to set aside its other business for an urgent debate today. The application is therefore declined.
I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. In the interests of Cabinet collective responsibility and public disclosure, I now seek leave for there to be a debate of the type that I requested.
